As off January 21, 2010, due to a five to four vote, corporations now have the right to use their general treasuries to fund television and other media ads in supporting or attacking a candidate running for an office and can run such ads during crucial days leading up to election. It was also riled that free speech is exactly the sme for corporations as it is for you and me as humans. I do not agree with this. Corporations are not human, they should not be given the same rights as us. If corporations can have the same rights as humans, then humans should be granted the same rights as corporations such as corporate treasury funds, special tax provisions and larger tax write offs. Corporations are man-made entities, not people, so they should not be given the same rights as humans. It is also bad for democracy because it will lead to billions of dollars of additional and very unnecessary campaign spending when the corporations could be using the money in a much more useful way. It will also lead to candidates running for office spending more time fund raising and less time with the people. It was a bad decision that will not benefit we the people.

  1. I totally agree with you that corporations should not have the same rights individuals. If they can have treasury funds, tax write offs and things like that than they are not an individual they are just a big business.

  2. You make a very good point! I agree with you, but I have a hard time siding with just one side on this. You have a very strong point of view, which makes it easy to understand your side and point of view. Good job!

  4. I totally agree with that. I don't think that ordinary people will really benefit from it. It will only cause a lot unnecessary changes and adjustments that will twist traditional and (almost)orderly elections.
