I agree with this quote. I do think that human beings will never settle for what they have or already possess. We are always wanting more. We are always doing selfish things in order to benefit ourselves, never thinking of the people on the other end who may be struggling due to our selfish ways. I like how she refers to humans as an “appetite,” how we are always in hunger mode rather than just being satisfied. Constantly seeing what we can do to improve our own lives and our own well being rather than that of others. I do believe there is a time to be selfish and a time where you can put yourself before others, but living every day like that is plainly unacceptable.
I enjoyed the book very much and even though I may not agree with the ending I think it was the right way for it to end. The ending was bitter sweet. Even though they did not actually end up getting out of the forest, they came to the realization that they were going to make it and be okay on their own. They had become apart of the forest and it was their new home and no one could take that away from them.

I can see both sides of this argument and there are pros and cons to each. I agree that there is a problem at hand and that something needs to get done about controlling illegal immigration. I do not know though if this law is going to make this situation any better because it does go against the constitution and does promote racial profiling; which is not what this country stands for. The state needs to really look at the situation at hand and really figure out something to do that can keep illegal immigration under control without discriminating against someone due to their race. I watched the Larry King Live you tube video and listened to a debate on the topic at hand and both made fairly reasonable arguments, but after listening to it I would have to say that I do think that the argument going against the law, saying that it is unconstitutional, was much stronger.

Personally, I do think that public should have to follow anti- bias rules. I do not think that any person, place or thing has the right to discriminate against anyone else for how they choose to live their life. To be more specific, I do not think that clubs on college campuses should deny anyone entrance into their club for a reason such as sexual orientation. They have no right to judge someone that way. Living in the United States we have the freedom to live our lives the way we choose to and so by allowing people to turn away others that want to be members of their club would be going against what this country stands for. If the college does start allowing these clubs to deny people who want to become members this could lead to many more things that could be much worse. Soon, whole colleges could start denying prospective students admission into the whole college itself just because of a reason such as sexual orientation. Teachers could start refusing to teach students that are "different" if this issue is not handled correctly. We, as Americans, should not and have no right to judge in this way. Everyone deserves equal rights and equal opportunities. No one should be put down or feel bad about the way they choose to live their life. If we did not get these privileges and opportunities then there would be no individualism or uniqueness. We need to make sure that acceptance of these differences is something that never fades away.

LYING
Do we expect people to lie to us? What would our world be like if no one lied?
YES! I know for a fact that people lie to me and have lied to me and honestly i am perfectly okay with someone telling me a little white lie. Sometimes hearing a lie is better that hearing the truth. Let's just say i ask my friend if my hair or makeup or even if my outfit looks okay, and even if it is not perfect, sometimes hearing that I look fine is just what I need. And vise versa, if my friend asks me if they look okay, and even if they do not look perfect I still tell them that they look awesome because it will put them in a great mood and help build up their confidence.
A world without lying would be a very corrupt world. Many people would hate each other and there would probably be no functional relationships anywhere! Lying is a necessary part of everyday life. I am not trying to say that lying is a good thing, just sometimes a necessary thing.

As off January 21, 2010, due to a five to four vote, corporations now have the right to use their general treasuries to fund television and other media ads in supporting or attacking a candidate running for an office and can run such ads during crucial days leading up to election. It was also riled that free speech is exactly the sme for corporations as it is for you and me as humans. I do not agree with this. Corporations are not human, they should not be given the same rights as us. If corporations can have the same rights as humans, then humans should be granted the same rights as corporations such as corporate treasury funds, special tax provisions and larger tax write offs. Corporations are man-made entities, not people, so they should not be given the same rights as humans. It is also bad for democracy because it will lead to billions of dollars of additional and very unnecessary campaign spending when the corporations could be using the money in a much more useful way. It will also lead to candidates running for office spending more time fund raising and less time with the people. It was a bad decision that will not benefit we the people.

Happy Endings
Many people want what they can't have. I am always hearing people say everything that they do not like about themselves and everything they would change if they had a magic wand. No one is ever perfectly happy with what they are given. In the short story titled, "Happy Endings" the young girl sees Shirley Temple and admires all that she is. She wants to be just like her with the blond curly hair and the white porcelain skin. She wants to look like her, act like her and be just like her. She thinks that if she is just like Shirley Temple her life would be so much better and she would finally attain happiness. This affects her sense of self because she will never be what she thinks is better than what she is. Rather than wanting what she cannot have she should be proud and thankful for how she was made. She will never be happy if she lives her life wanting to be someone else.
